Bodgers Farm is on Marshland Fen in West Norfolk, the area immediately to the south of The Wash bounded by the rivers Nene and Great Ouse.  The Farm is a couple of miles to the west of the Great Ouse on its course between Downham Market and the estuary just north of Kings Lynn.  Marshland Fen is on the eastern edge of the Fens which stretch from Huntingdon in the south, to Peterborough in the west, and way up into Lincolnshire in the north – the land of the big skies.

A brief history of Marshland Fen

The Fen was the great common used for many centuries by the 'seven towns'; Emneth, Walsoken, Walton, Walpole, Terrington, Tilney and Clenchwarton, as summer grazing. In 1796 landowners in the seven towns successfully applied for an Act to enclose the Fen - some 8,000 acres in all. Apart from updated land drainage systems little has changed since then and the area is a mixture of rich agricultural land and wetland habitat for wildlife. Visit the Bed and Breakfast page to read more about local places of interest and our Fenland bird life

Bodgers Farm is a delightfully quiet rural retreat but is within 20 minutes driving time of the local towns of Downham Market, King's Lynn and Wisbech. Ely and Peterborough are within 40 minutes. For more information about Downham Market please visit www.downhamchamber.co.uk

Downham Market is served by an hourly fast train service (1½ hours) from Kings Cross, London, with connections to/from all parts of the UK at Ely.

Fly your own plane? Marshland Airfield, a privately owned airstrip, is just 1 mile up the Drove. Landing, fuelling, etc by pre-arrangement only.

Our postal address is very misleading (thank you Royal Mail). We are actually 4 miles from St Johns Fen End, we are closer to Downham Market than Wisbech, and we are in Norfolk, not Cambridgeshire!

Bodger's Farm can be found 1 mile south of Rungays Bridge on Marshland Fen (Black Drove is the extension of School Road, from Marshland St James). There is a link to a map on the "Bed & Breakfast" page or click here. If you are using our postcode in your SatNav it will tell you you've arrived when you are outside our neighbours at Providence House and Farm - ignore this and continue for 1 more mile!

Postal address only: Howard and Kate Phillips, Bodger's Farm, Black Drove, St John's Fen End, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire PE14 8JU
