‘Something about the
gentle, subtle, colours of the county I live in has inspired me to develop this
range of ceramics’

Norfolk Ware has been developed by Kate to reflect the subtle landscape, seascapes, and sky of her home county of Norfolk;
Norfolk Ware is porcelain, thrown on the wheel, with coloured clay added during the throwing. Many of the pieces are gently distorted to give a more tactile, organic, feel to them. Reduction firing in the gas kiln brings out the subtle colouring of the clays.

Kate has undertaken extensive research work on Viking and Saxon pottery. The following pieces have been inspired by her researches and are shaped and patterned in line with the period. All these pieces are high fired stoneware and are food and dishwasher safe. In great demand from the re-enactment community, these pots also make decorative and interesting display pieces.
Research is ongoing. While none of the pieces can claim to be exact replicas the patternation and general form follows original designs quite closely. They are, of course, made from much harder-wearing stoneware clays than our ancestors could manage. They are glazed inside and are food-safe and hygienic.
